‘Praha – City of Prague’ ~ A Review by iamnobird94: as part of the Wandering Bird Reviews series.

Prague is a place of wonder, every new corner unique to the last. A rich, multicultural, busy city, where everyone is so pleasant, kind and welcoming. Everything about the place screams ‘there’s more to explore’ and there always is. From the historical gothic quarter of the city, which sports gothic architecture, famous historical buildings, shops, restaurants and celebrates artists, musicians and historians. All of whom add to the flavour and general feel of this part of the city. The cobbled streets make for walking in heels difficult but they are part of what makes the city feel like it’s frozen in some other time. Lunch by the river, or perhaps even on the river by boat is advisable, this part of this stunning city seems to reflect on the waters surface, you can see the Dutch parliamentary buildings, and beautiful bridges as you pass through by boat. The guide is knowledgable, clear and conscience and not one bit of information was missed or misunderstood. Getting lost in this city perhaps was the most fun, we came across shops, stores and even ‘Absentherie’ the absinthe bar down an ally-way, which was wonderfully wicked in its promise to bring you closer to that green fairy. Perhaps the part of Prague that was most endearing, was the city under the stars, the streets illuminated by old fashioned lampposts, giving the city an orange glow – adding to its spiritual, eerie tone. The city has many clubs and bars, including an impressive Hard Rock Café, a bit of a pain to find but worth every step! Right next door was a Coyote bar/club, with live performers dancing on the bar, and the city was not shy of catering to all social groups, with gay clubs to add a bit of colour to the nightlife. So whether you’re interest lies with its historical culture: it’s cathedrals, cobbled walkways, high end fashion streets, or with its fascinating nightlife – Prague has something for everyone. And leaving was something we each found heartbreaking – visit this wonderful city. Explore it. Get lost in it. But be prepared to leave wishing the plane home would come at a later date, when boarding to go home you stare out of the window with a longing smile on your face and the knowledge you left a part of your heart with this vibrant, bustling, fun and other worldly city.

The Fall, a poem by iamnobird94 (taken from “The Wanderers” anthology)

‘Don’t let go’ By Mcarmenmk

The fall…

Her bare feet barely touch the floor,
As she ran, as she tore.
Trudging through the forgotten lands,
Leaving the unforgiving shore behind, so far.

Her breath escapes staggered,
Desperate.
The beating of her heart.
Boom boom, boom boom.

Which way to turn,
No where to go, no one to hear.
Her damp hair sticks to her.
Hands wet, fear.

Her face swollen, heart torn
She stops,
The horizon stares back.
The salty air blows past.

No time, her lifeless eyes close.
Hell was beckoning.
A burning desire to fight,
She held out her arms.

Let them try,
A gentle nudge,
She let go.
In order to fly, one must first…

Can’t stop my heart when you shine it in my eyes, can’t lie it’s a sweet life! ~ A review, By iamnobird94

pitch-perfect-2-poster

The much awaited sequel to the 2012 hit film “Pitch Perfect” was released in the UK not long ago, and I went to see it recently. The film returns its much-loved cast of Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Adam DeVine, and new edition, Hailee Stienfield as ‘Emily’. Director Elizabeth Banks (Gail) and writer Kay Cannon have outdone themselves this time around. The first film follows a young freshman, ‘Becca’ as she journeys through her first year at Barden University. She enlists in an elite a capella all female singing group titled “The Barden Bella’s”, the rather hilarious ensemble of one liners, fantastic singing, harmonising, and great on-screen chemistry saw the first film a huge success! I would be at placement and the children would be doing my head in with the bloody cup song. But apart form this annoyance, it rocketed to one of my favourite films. Now, its sequel I thought could not and will not be as brilliant as the first! Sequels have a nasty reputation of being rather bloody awful, whether it be from the pressure of the fans, budgets, or simply a rather embarrassing script. I was shocked to leave the cinema on a Monday night, completely and truly blown away! The cast shone, their talent showcased like they were art pieces in a gallery. Those one liners were more often and not only from Wilson’s character ‘Fat Amy’, the main comedian of the first film, but from all of the characters. At one point I genuinely thought I’d have to leave the room for a few seconds to compose my self and subside my laughter. The new rivals ‘Das Sound Machine’ were brilliant, such a fantastic group of people, what talent! The increased budget was obvious, more tech, more noise, more talented actors, more of everything! The new character of ‘Emily’ was refreshing, in that she was almost a representative of the audience, looking through her eyes at the new champion Bellas. She was new, nervous and made many mistakes, but essentially another huge talent hidden behind a giggly and sweet persona. The original song of “Flashlight, was beautiful, I’d heard it many times prior by Jessie J, and hearing the Bella’s version was wonderful! The whole film made me laugh (sometimes hysterically), cry, and just feel everything. We see the Bellas as winners and as losers, but mostly we are shown their developed friendship (having skipped 3 years since the first film) and their deep feelings they have for one another. ‘Emily’ is a singer songwriter and wrote the end song “Flashlight” that the Bellas sing beautifully at the end of the film. I won’t spoil anything by getting into any further details with regards to specific scenes but I will encourage you to see this film, and furthermore I dare you not to cry at any point during it! I honestly left that cinema thinking about my own friends, achievements and university life and thought “it’s a sweet life”.

Drowning

The sound of crushing

The cold rushing

It aches

It burns

I am immortal

The beating

Tapping,

Tap, tap, tap.

I enclose around you

Can you really fight me?

Reach out, forever fighting.

Forever a battle,

Pain, limbs break,

Hurt – cold

I am stronger

I am taking you

Not long.

Burning of the overactive lungs

Filling, no air.

Do not swallow.

Reach up, kick, up, up.

I am the anchor, the chain

I am the string,

Only I am immortal.

And I will prevail.

The Infinite Cycle,

A forest of green, yellow and ember

Life surrounding, birds flying

Sounds, squirrels scurry, squeaks from a mouse

Silently, sleeping, hiding from the soft breeze.

Seeds blow, carried by most, travelling to nowhere.

To everywhere.

Birds and forest families searching.

Frozen melodies singing,

Footsteps, pitter-pattering on the forest floor.

Twigs broken, snap. Broken.

Feathers land, stolen by mother Badger, making a nest

Under the ash tree

Fulfilling her destiny

Blue outlines the green leafy tops of the trees

Light seeps through the gaps, enlightening

Beams of green, blue and brown in every direction

An escape for some, voices heard in the distance.

The orange light dimming,

Their home, from the nest to the burrow.

The tree tops to the moist dirt floor.

The infinite cycle, undisturbed.
